It’s fun too when you live in a place where homes as cheap as 550 don’t even exist💔 “starter homes” within 2 hours of boston are typically closer to 800 starting. 😞

Yep and my parents just don’t understand this. They think it’s “always been this way”

My first house was a 40k one that needed work. Y’all don’t want that. Yall want 3000sqft with a pool. I’m 41 and about to build a house that I will pass to my kid.

EXACTLY! We have a pretty sizable down payment and even if we have 100k more for our down payment, we still couldn’t afford the house cuz we can’t pay the monthly payments and we make more than the median income rn.

So you move to where the $200k homes are. Yes they’re worse than the original but fix it up over time to help it appreciate.

We’re all fucked. My life goal has changed from a comfortable sized single family house to a tiny home

I agree with the message but perspective is important. Unless you live in a big city, you can still find homes in the 200-300k range as a starter home and start the process the same way the people did in 09

Bought my home in 1998. Sold it for a decent profit in 2022. Can’t afford to buy a one bedroom condo.

The problem is that the $400k home in 2019 is now $700k in Eastern MA

I'm an older millennial, built our home in 2007 I was 26 when it was finished and we moved in... our mortgage is 921 a month, gross income is over 100k.... I thank god every day we built when we did...we did build it as our forever home so no intention of ever moving and I definitely wouldn't now cause I love my mortgage rate 😂

The problem with this scenario is that you say a young millennial buying a $550k home. In my early thirties I couldn’t / wouldn’t be able to buy a $200k home. 😳

Damn those investors buying up the single family homes like a monopoly game. People just buying them only to sell 2years later. Sucks for people who want their forever home!

So we bought, but at the tippy top of what they said we could afford and now I feel trapped. Monthly is $6400. We just had our first baby and every month I’m reminded that if we just went back to renting, I could quit my job 😭 but we just wanted to own and have something to pass down to her

I made $30k a year in 1984 and bought my first home. A 2 bdrm condo on the train line from Middletown NJ right into NYC. No “credit score,” just “can you pay the mortgage.” I could, yes. $79k and it was mine. Same house sold by current owners for $400k last year. SAME house.
