@arc.woman: 🧠 The Minnesota Starvation Experiment was not a diet. It showed what sustained energy restriction does to human physiology. Healthy men consuming ~1,560 kcal per day developed depression, anxiety, hair loss, edema, muscle wasting, slowed metabolism, and endocrine disruption. When energy drops, survival systems take priority. 🔥 For women, chronic under-eating has wider consequences. Energy availability below ~30 kcal per kg fat-free mass suppresses hypothalamic signalling, disrupts ovulation, lowers thyroid T3 conversion, elevates cortisol, and slows metabolic rate. This is the physiology behind missing periods, hair thinning, cold intolerance, low libido, and stubborn weight retention. 🌿 A cycling female body is energetically expensive. Ovulation, progesterone production, endometrial growth, and nervous system stability all require sufficient calories, carbohydrates, protein, and micronutrients. Under-fueling signals famine, not safety. ✨ Ready to nourish hormones instead of restrict them? My Infradian Cookbook and Nourishment Chart show exactly how to eat across each phase to restore metabolism and support ovulation. 💬 DM me COOKBOOK or CHART and I’ll send the link + discount. At 5’3 this is exactly the caloric intake I needed to lost weight. 1500-1800 daily to maintain. Anything more makes me gain so much

And the RDA of vitamin C is actually the bare minimum to prevent scurvy, not what we actually require.

I’m 5’ my maintenance is 12-1500 my deficit is 1000, unless I work out every single day intensively, eating above what is considered a level of starvation would have me the size of a house 😂

More discussion needs to happen around this. used to do 1200 calories a day of “low calorie foods”. I was grumpy, exhausted, hungry all the time. and still struggled with weight. I haven’t counted calories in over a decade, I’m almost 40, & I eat full fat, full flavor foods when I’m hungry…& I’m 30 lbs lighter than in HS & my early 20’s when I tried to stick to 1200 calories.

Unfortunately, if I want to lose weight, that’s what I do have to eat. I normally eat around 1600-1800, but I have been just over the limit of what’s considered overweight most of my adult life.

I'm eating 2200 and losing. Below 1800 I stall and don't want to leave my bed. I workout as a bodybuilder (I'm still just a fatty), and work from 8 to 6, my job is quite physical, commute with my bicycle.

The idea of a generic calorie intake is crazy. It’s like one size fits all hats. I’ve never found one that fits me.

i remember learning at uni that it was 2500 which still like a bar of chocolate, but that's just so you body can function, like breathing, etc,is like the starting point not the limit

Calories should be dictated by activity levels. If you’re building muscle then more calories will be needed

I stick to 1200-1500 a day working construction. im not even 30, and the combination of intense physical activity for 40+ hours a week, and significantly reduced calorie intake still cant get me to lose a pound. a month into this and I still weigh 220. but now im always tired and irritable.

I am in my fifties, walk quite a lot and do Pilates, I do eat more than 1200 cals but basically have to be hungry especially at night to lose any weight, and the weight loss is very slow. It’s jus tough
