In its latest 10-year Budget and Economic Outlook, CBO shows: The U.S. budget deficit (the annual gap between spending and revenue) is projected to stay very high — about $1.9 trillion in fiscal 2026, rising toward $3.1 trillion by 2036. Total deficits over the decade are projected at about $24 trillion. That averages out to roughly $2.4 trillion per year in deficits if you divide $24 trillion by 10 years.
