Don't forget the part where neither the MD office or the insurance company tell the pharmacy when the med is approved or denied leaving us completely in the dark 🤦‍♀️

Keep in mind that the doctor and the pharmacy are your advocates and want you to have the medication. Your insurance is the one causing delays and redundancy

I tell patients pa’s are between the doctor and insurance, we as pharmacy are the middleman and have nothing to do with it

PHARMACY DOES NOT NEED TO SUBMIT OR SEND THE PA NOTIFICATION TO THE OFFICE!!!! The office can start that BEFORE it even gets sent TO the pharmacy. WHEN have you ever seen a paid claim for a new start Wegovy or Zepbound?!

Hardly any providers do PA’s. The medical assistant or their nursing staff do.

I wish patient’s would understand this. I work in Endo and Diabetes and am tired of being yelled at because insurance rejected their weight loss drug. Call them. Not me.

If a doctor deems it medically necessary for the health of the patients, insurance should pay for it. FULL STOP!!! I work in Endocrinology and I should NEVER have to do a PA for insulin or diabetic testing supplies

prior authorizations are fucking stupid in my opinion, unless it's for like a crazy drug or something seriously expensive. I work for an insurance company and i feel sooo bad for the members that have to go through all of these obstacles just to get their meds

I just tell the patient “Your insurance wants to talk to the Dr before they decide to pay for it” if I tell them all this their eyes glaze over 😭

At the pharmacy we can process the PA and get it sent to the prescriber in like 5 minutes, tops. after that, it's out of our hands.

From doctors office side- we now tell them to call their insurance if they haven’t heard in a week, not us, we have done our part, you can do the part. Especially when you call the patient and all the sudden the patient says ‘oh actually I’ve used these’, and we have to hope the provider can addend the note.

They need to get a grip on the insurance companies. They have gotten out of hand. I know the insurance wants all their executives to have palatial mansions and chauffeurs increasing payments.

it's actually just the insurance company. just let the doctor send the script and have the pharmacy fill it 😭

I always mention, to keep it simple. “I can fill it but it’s expensive, the insurance won’t pay for it until the doctor convinces them”

i do wish the pharmacy would call me and let me know that a PA is required though, because I'll make sure to call my doctor and make sure they know it needs a PA and that they are doing it
