Everyone is miserable. But there's also generational trauma causing people all their issues. Cathy and Heathcliff are the worst IMO. But both also have trauma.

In the book, no. She’s a victim and a servant. In “Wuthering Heights”, she is.

I think she was perfectly sensible considering her role and time period. Why should I co-sign you throwing your life away to be a beggar with Heathcliff, especially when the alternative choice is both of us living comfortably in the Linton estate? And her snitching about the affair, after being told that she’s getting kicked to the streets despite keeping Cathy’s affair secret so far….yeah it’s perfectly normal to snitch to save your own life. Idk why Cathy didn’t consider that before trying to kick out the one person who could ruin her. I honestly think both Cathy and Heathcliff are delusional about their ability to be together and Nelly is the only one who can think realistically about what the consequences are.

This bums me out cause Nelly is lowkey one of my favorite characters in the book. I love the foreshadowing convos she has with Heathcliff

cathy was insufferable and cruel esp to nelly- it was hard to have sympathy for her and heathcliff as well.

I don’t think Nelly is the villain in the movie either tbh. Anyone who gets that from the movie has poor literary comprehension

I simply think she's the definition of an unreliable narrator. for example I never quite believed to the image she gave of expecially cathy since she states multiple times she dislikes both her and heathcliff and I think it's hugely unlikely to offer a positive image of someone you dislike so much. I definitely enjoy her character more in the book too. there she actually gives cathy heathcliff's letter and actually helps him to see her one last time before she dies. she could have been a more nuanced and interesting character in the movie.
