200 decibels isn’t double 100 decibels. A 200 dB sound is10^10 (10 billion) times more intense than a 100 dB sound, While 100 dB (chainsaw/power mower) is loud and risks hearing damage within 15 minutes, 200 dB is a near-instantaneous fatal pressure wave, comparable to a rocket launch at close range.

fun fact: they know to turn their clicks down when humans are in the water. They can still harm you, sometimes even paralyze certain parts of your body, but it won't 💀 you. They're so intelligent. I have heard however if you were near a sperm whale when it clicked at full power, it would boil your blood. Its theoretical because sperm whales just DONT direct it at humans, and turn it down, but its crazy.

Wouldn't blue whales technically still be the largest predator in the world? Sperm whales would be the largest active hunters.

Maybe it’s up for debate, but I think the Blue Whale is the largest predator/carnivore.

It’s amazes me that there are enough squid in the ocean to feed ~350k sperm whales. What are the giant squid eating?

I love them. In the book heart of the sea a whaler talks about being able to actually lower himself into the skull of a sperm whale which is very upsetting but also puts into perspective exactly how large they get
