The chasing trends is a must because traditional publishers don’t care about unique stories as those don’t make money. They want slop that are using similar formulas that the successful novels are. I won’t do this simply because for me writing novels is about making an impact and not necessarily about money or fame or any of that. For me authenticity is of utmost importance.

fantastic advice, are there any websites/apps that might be good for writers to use? like ones that help the process of writing? or ones for sharing stories? I'm 18, I've written a short story which I think is alright, maybe not the best but it would still be nice to know what people, other than those I personally know, think so I can improve on my writing

I always read directly before I write. At first it was to trigger inspiration, but now it’s just standard routine. And I’m avoiding reading similar books to what I’m writing right now to avoid TOO direct of inspiration

Also, I would like to say that yes, reading in your genre is important, but I think that variety is key. Reading in multiple genres, opens your horizons and make you discover different styles etc. Which can also be adapted to your genre.
