As a patient who was in ICU for 18 days, icu nurses are also the most amazing individuals I have ever met in my life. I thank them for me being here today. They advocated and supported me more than anyone else.

I needed to hear this about the six months. I am six months into my nursing now and yesterday I hysterically sobbed on shift when I had to deal with a specific task where I knew it was my weak point, nurse in charge gave me the best advice and really settled my anxiety but I will say the six month mark comes with more confidence BUT the realisation that you’re drowning in more responsibility 😅

Went to CSICU the other day for about 10 minutes to be helping hands. I have been an outpatient cardiac nurse for 30 years. Holy shit those nurses are badass!! ECMO, CRRT, balloon pumps, a million drips.

That’s so correct, you feel like you know the most things after 2 years. And after that you still learn a lot of new things! Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions. And if someone is rude about that, they just feel superior! Don’t bother working yourself up about them, go to the next person and ask them.

in my ICU the ratio is 3:1 and you're alone unless there is a fourth patient and they call for another nurse

Where I am, we have 8 beds. At night if we have 2 nurses and maybe a tech, we have up to 3 a piece. And have to cap our beds at 6. If we have 3 nurses then that’s better but still two nurses get 3 patients 🫣
