Nioh 2 is my favorite one but I really enjoyed Rise of the Ronin so the open world elements in Nioh 3 are highly enjoyable for me. It seems they built on that without directly copying RotR

I made it until antiquity to realize I’d been tricked into believing this game was difficult and better than it really was. By the 3rd act the bosses just spam and try to distract you but you can just dodge and kill with tonfas. After I beat the 3rd boss in act 3 I realized what it was and just turned it off. I’ll come back and replay it from the beginning after DLC comes out. I know I won’t play it more than once.

I would say that playing the other Nioh's before Nioh 3 allows you to learn the muscle memory of actions like ki pulsing, how certain combos work, etc, but its not mandatory.

the 3rd game in a franchise is never like the first ones and either "ruins or makes" thr franchise from that point on. diablo 1 and 2 vs 3 fallout 1 and 2 vs 3 fable 1 and 2 vs 3 as some examples. the first ones perfectly set up the world's and by the time they get to the 3rd installment they seem to get a feel for what they want the game to go towards

Nioh 2 is fantastic but definitely not for everyone. there are some genuine difficulty spikes in the game that you can't run from, farm and come back too. The dlc for Nioh 1 and 2 have probably some of the hardest fights ive had in a souls like
