for people talking about tearaway stitching: you're wrapping the thread around one side. tearaway doesn't rip stitches, it is looped in a way that makes it easy to unravel from one side. because whipping stitch (this) doesn't interfere with the second thread underneath, it isn't less safe for airbags.

For all the fun police, learn where the air bags are. Cuz they’re not on your back, for mercs specifically they are at the side covered by a panel not even fabric so it’s impossible to stitch over an airbag.
