I watched my adopted sibling destroy my adopted family (my perspective as a child) and I do think you’re right about this being a sibling thing. Once I went through my own healing, it was clearly the adopted parent’s responsibility. I can sympathize with the difficult situation they are trapped in, but I am estranged from them because they couldn’t/wouldn’t keep me safe.

I think you are SPOT ON and this has been the fuel for a lot of emotional prep work I’m doing before having kids… as a former “good” child from a tense family, I cannot expect (and don’t want!) my future child to behave like I did. It’s very likely that parts of my will view them as immature for acting in an age appropriate manner, because I never acted that way at their age, but that’s on me to heal. I want my kid to feel safe being silly and stubborn and passionate.
