@curatingambiance: I‘ve said it before and I’ll say it again: taste do you have it? Just kidding, sort of. But really, I want to make this 10 episode series for you to prove I am indeed the Rick Rubin of vibes - and to break down what I’ve been studying for years. Come along, should be fun! #taste #curation #rickrubin #curatingambiance

taste begins at the ability to have consistency, an ethical and ontological standpoint, have different tones within genres you like that dont contradict themselves and the ability to situate and contextualise why "this item" and why its inevitable rather than just looks nice. Its an art people dont understand.

As an independent curator, I fear this new extension of the word curate is missing all the significance from decades of research, academia, and practice. “Curation” is built around synthesizing multiple perspectives, and using those multifaceted insights to build inclusive stories that people see themselves within. As a practice, it is not truly centered on personal taste at all. It is about discernment, awareness, and anticipating the needs of your audience. Taste is a part of this role, specifically in design and presentation, and absolutely it is a skill just like anything else! However, good curation of content, objects, or stories is grounded in quality research. This new emphasis on content curation omits the necessity of solid research skills. To fix this, people informing audiences on this topic should also provide content on proper researching!

Taste doesn’t have to do with being rich. It’s someone who admires beauty and see it everywhere. He has an eye can notice details. His senses are more active than others

I'd like to think that taste is formed through experiences of the person + his/her environment, it's something that can't be easily generated or printed out by typing in words! also this is your first video on my fyp I truly adore it.

The beige aesthetic is not taste in my opinion. In my view, taste is not something you own, it’s inspiration that comes to you and you can recognize it through a lens of decades if not centuries of human cultural development and experiences. It’s noticing fleeting truth and beauty. It’s also not a stagnant quality you can have. For me, it exists between us and outside of us. But that’s just how I see it, I liked to share it underneath this post :)

hyperborean0 :
Taste was class bound for centuries: it was the province of the aristocracy and later the bourgeoisie. Taste based connoisseurship has broken down because an elitist cultural education steeped in classical learning and aesthetics would be pretty politically incorrect at this point. That might be the only way back to taste. That’s our cultural paradox right now.

AI cannot paint. It cannot sew. It cannot create the energy that you feel when you walk into an artisan shop. The ability to create and discern and appreciate that energy - THAT is the future or taste.

Very interesting analysis. This is the topic I am analysing as a software engineer who is trained to think in systems, but was always a very visual person. These are the topics I will be expanding on my substack! Taste is something not everyone understands and it’s not something you achieve with “more”. Looking forward to series! If you are interested you can check my publication on substack where I analysed what Maison Margiela and Kate Moss have in common and how they similarly built their power in the industry – substack: sararamdvc
