@watsandwellsmom: Homeschool moms and private school moms, how did you know what the right decision is? I can’t go through another school year like this where my kid is in distress having to go to school and I just don’t know what the right answer is #fyp #homeschool #school #MomsofTikTok #momtok
Aw poor sweet boy 😭 I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Have you considered a homeschool co-op? You can home school one or two days and then send him to a co-op for a a few days. It’s kinda like the best of both worlds. It’s way more laid back than sending him to a traditional school.

that doesn’t sound like a supportive classroom environment for him and maybe the teacher can make some adjustments

When I was a child I went to a Montessori charter school and had the best experience from k-4. Then moved to a new state and went to a public school and did not enjoy it. I highly recommend the Montessori style learning. It was very hands on, creative, using more critical thinking, smaller classes, learning more life skills.

My 6 year old (who also happens to have type 1 diabetes which makes public school hard sometimes) goes to a farmschool/homeschool tutorial 4 days a week. It functions as a school + they have teachers that have left the public school system teaching the kiddos. It’s amazing and we love it so much.

My son is the SAME WAY. I feel so defeated but I totally understand where you’re at. He’s HATES school. Love his friends, loves his teachers, just HATES the act of actually going

I pulled my kids out of public school. We are 3 years into homeschool and it’s the best choice for my family. Facebook has homeschool meet ups for play dates. So many options for homeschoolers during the day at library’s etc. church once a week to see friends. They are more social now than they were in school and so much less stress on them and less anxiety for me! Best choice I’ve ever made for my children.

I have a 7,5 and 19 month old and homeschool! It is absolutely the best decision ever, I can remember being physically illllllll going to school like I would vomit almost every day before school, I still have so much anxiety for zero reason 😂 I feel like homeschooling has really truly made my kids such easy going and relaxed kids and the mental and physical health of my kids will always come first. I always tell people pull your kids and try it for a semester and see if you like it if it doesn’t work you can try other options.

I pulled my daughter from private to homeschooling in Australia for year 2. She’s so much happier now without the stress of forced socialising and she can take her time with her work. But my younger son loves going to his kindergarten 🤷🏼♀️

Kids should have fun at school, I’m so sorry he’s going through that. I was that way as a kid and still an adult but it’s not fun to deal with.

My daughter was the exact same way. Extremely anxious and it really hurt my heart. Her pediatrician put her on low dose Zoloft, and it literally saved my daughters life. Night and day difference. I would look into that.

Iv been watching you for a while and I know you are an amazing mom, I have no doubt you would thrive as a homeschool mom. I pulled my boys from school and my family has never been better, my kids experience true happiness every day, weekly my boys tell me thank you for homeschooling.

My son just started at an acton academy and so far it's been really great! Kind of similar to Montessori but it's a very different type of school but seems like it's so great for the kids! Especially boys who need freedom and not just sitting at a desk!

Homeschool mom for 5 years now, my son is 14 and it was the BEST decision we’ve ever made! No one wants our children to succeed more than we do, you won’t fail him. Sending love!

He sounds like me as a kid! Eventually I outgrew the worst of it, but mostly I learned to simply mask the anxiety. I was ultimately fine and did very well in school, but I think I would’ve really thrived in a small private school. My son’s not school aged yet but I’ll probably start him on that route and see how he does from there.

Listen to the book The Call of the Wild & Free by Ainsley Arment - it will help you know if homeschooling is the right track. 💜

Can you get a neuropsych eval or ask the school for some rating scales to be done? Sounds like he’s a great kid going through a rough patch. But look into it

My four-year-old daughter just started preschool at a private Christian school this year. While I feel like this year has been good for her and I love her teacher. It has helped me decide that I will not be sending her to kindergarten next year and instead, I will be homeschooling. My advice to you would be to pull him out of school immediately and homeschool until the end of the year. This will give you a trial period so that you can make a decision on what to do next year if homeschooling goes well then maybe that’s your path forward. however, if it doesn’t go well that will buy you some time to look into other options. My oldest is also an anxious rule follower like your son and she has done great in her private school. Ultimately just pray about it and you are his mother. You know what’s best for him.

Homeschool! We pulled our kids from their private school (in Dec of 2025) because we wanted to keep them kids for as long as we can! Our kids are doing life with us and thats WAY more valuable to us than anything. Our kids are 6 & 8. I wish we started homeschooling sooner but I can’t tell you how happier and less stressed we are as a family!! I can’t tell go on and on about how wonderful this new journey has been 🙌🙌

My child isn’t old enough for school yet. But I’ve been researching and it sounds like Montessori might be something worth looking into!
