@michelle.vs.humanity: New Everest rules 2026 - turns out you don’t have to have climbed a 7000 metre peak as the law hasn’t changed for this year yet. So we could still be seeing queues at the summit of Mount Everest in 2026 #mounteverest #everesttok

The rubbish rule is that you must bring down what you take up, and if you don’t have any poop to bring down after a few days on the mountain, it is a $200 fine. Of course it is best to bring more down but above 7000m it is very hard - now drones are starting to be used. Also the 7000m peak rule is just to help with safety, not queues. Kristen Harila, in my opinion one of the world’s best climbers posted a good video on Instagram talking about all of this.

I sorta think the 7,000M rule is a bit silly, cuz people will just do the easiest 7k while if you do an actual technical peak like Ana Dablem, it won’t count cuz it’s 6,812

It’s 2026!! We should be referring to the mountain by the Nepali or Tibetan name!Everest himself objected to the name and wanted to retain its actual name - Sagarmatha or Chomalungma.

So all the tourist types are going to push to get up this spring. It’s gonna be bad if they allow it. 😬

They are scrapping the deposit rule , now they are proposing a fee of approx $5000 which will pay for others to go and clean up , climbers still have to bring back their personal trash and this will be monitored by rangers at certain points .

They need to stop people climbing until all that rubbish is cleared. I taught my kids at a very young age not to litter and leave no trace, these are rich people who expect someone to clear up after them! Makes me so cross.

7k rule is weird to me because 7K peaks generally have herfet and harsher conditions, so that will lead to a lot more ☠️
