In the UK, bathrooms were treated as high risk zones because water + electricity is dangerous especially in small, enclosed spaces, since most bathrooms don’t have windows for ventilation. For decades, only low power shaver sockets were allowed. Now, standard sockets can exist, but they must be RCD protected and far from the bath or shower. It’s not that electricity is more dangerous there it’s about minimising accidents in small, wet, poorly ventilated spaces. In Turkey, bathrooms usually have standard sockets because the approach is more practical: people need them for hairdryers, shavers, and other devices. Many Turkish bathrooms are designed assuming users handle electricity safely, and modern buildings use grounding and other safety measures. So it’s low risk in everyday use UK rules just prefer to be extra cautious rather than assume everyone will always be careful.
