used to work on macs for years, they are easy to repair cause you can swap out components the whole, but fixing whats actually broken feels almost impossible. i hate how the 2014-2017 21" 2k imacs already had their cpu and ram soldered to the Board, which became the New Standard as soon as the m1 Model was introduced.

Thats the thing i dislike about newer macs (and makes me avoid them for now even though i do kind of want one), the fact everything is soldered. On my old/ancient macs i could pop in an extra ram module or drive and service it myself (love that the front was held on by magnets). Also the fact they do have connectors inside as opposed to directly soldering all cables to their parts is interesting. Some chinese brands save money by soldering everything and not placing any/much connectors

I have a 09 imac and repasting it was a nightmare. so many screws of different sizes and then I bent so many pins bc the plastics on the pins were so old and brittle they just break the second you look at it wrong. but hey its upgradable.
