TikTok is basically the place where the internet goes when it wants to completely destroy your sense of time, because you can open the app for “just five minutes” and somehow end up three hours later watching a guy rank different types of spoons, a Minecraft clip from 2019, someone making a ridiculously complicated meal at 3 AM, a random football edit with 7 million likes, and then an emotional video that has absolutely nothing to do with anything you were looking at before. The algorithm somehow knows exactly what you want to see before you even know it yourself, and one minute you’re laughing at a stupid meme while the next minute you’re learning the entire history of a country you didn’t even search for. TikTok has also created an entire language of its own, with random sounds, trends, inside jokes, edits, challenges, and phrases appearing out of nowhere and then disappearing two weeks later like they never existed. It’s honestly impressive how quickly something can become popular on TikTok, because a random person can upload a 15-second video from their bedroom and suddenly millions of people are copying the sound, using the same joke, and making their own versions. At the same time, TikTok can be incredibly useful because there are tons of tutorials, educational videos, gaming clips, cooking ideas, news updates, and creative content mixed in with all the nonsense. Basically, TikTok is an infinite box of random internet content where you never really know what the next video is going to be, and that unpredictability is probably exactly why people keep saying “one more video” until the sun comes up.
