The Norwegian Armed Forces terminated the NH90 program after more than 20 years of delays, low availability, and serious maintenance issues. Out of 14 helicopters ordered in 2001, only a fraction were fully operational, and the fleet delivered around 700 flight hours per year instead of the expected ~3,900. In 2022, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence cancelled the contract, grounded the fleet, and demanded a refund. The helicopters were returned to NHIndustries, and Norway received hundreds of millions of euros in compensation. Bottom line: decades of delays, poor operational capability, weak follow-up from the manufacturer — and Norway finally pulled the plug.
