@a.bfwithepilepsy: “What are you looking at?” “Why are you staring at me?” I’ve heard these questions more times than I can count—still do, even today. Absence seizures don’t look the same for everyone with epilepsy. For me, they look like a blank stare, an eye roll, or eye fluttering. To someone watching, it can come off as attitude… but that’s not what’s happening at all. I’m not being rude. I’m not ignoring you. I’m just zoning out for a moment without realizing it. That’s why I usually follow up with, “What did you say?” So if you catch me stopping and staring, please know it isn’t intentional. It’s just epilepsy showing up in a quiet way.
