The cup lets you see a memory of the previous person who drank from the cup. It’s very simple, yet very effective in getting players to start role-playing. love thus idea man. I did something similar. Each of my players made a bargain to give up a memory, something good and something bad. they would loose those memories, but I gifted them something of significant value. Oh I shoukd mention they were isekaid, so they we sharing themselves.

I love this and i'm going to put it in the yawning portal since I like to play in the city of waterdeep. i\nOften play durnin as a crusty old man.\nBut I think you would find it funny when he sees a table of new adventurers to lend them his cup. then he will probably take bets on whether or not lending that group , the cup will cause a fight or not. double your bet if the fight becomes physical and you call it correctly
