421 Super Duty, i had one at 17. I smoke the 389’s. 405 horsepower but it was much more than that. I loved the solid lift cam. It will never flout out.

We put a 421 small cam 373 rear 67 firebird and it went i think 11.70s on street tires in late 80s I was surprised how well it ran

Pontiac tri-power are really easy. Set your center carburetor the outboard carburetors are just dumps like on a vacuum secondary four barrel. A lot of manual transmission had mechanical linkage. Still outboards open just like secondary on a four barrel. I think the 421 is super cool and I love them and I own one, but it has the large 3 1/4. Main journal very bad for high RPMs the 389 has a 3 inch main journal you can very easily born and stroke, a 389 to a 421 in.³ motor.

It’s so hard to synchronize all three carburetors. I love the way it looks though. Multiple Motorcycle carburetor synchronization is a lot easier.

Should be the same set up they use the same intake, that said I’d take the 421 Tri-Power. Torque and HP. Are the obvious reasons and the the 421 heads breath better than the 389 heads I believe.
