If you keep accepting inconsistent dates, last-minute plans, low effort, and emotional distance, men don’t think they’re failing. They think they’re meeting the standard. Most men don’t sit there thinking, “I should do more.” They think, “She’s fine with this.” That’s why things don’t improve. That’s why effort stays exactly where it is. Because nothing forces it to change. When you keep giving time, energy, attention, and emotional access without investment on his side, you’re teaching him that access to you is cheap. Not intentionally. But effectively. And men respond to structure, not speeches. So the shift isn’t arguing, explaining, or asking for more. It’s changing what you allow. You stop rewarding bare minimum behavior. You stop making it easy to stay comfortable. You slow access. You create space. You raise expectations. And suddenly, effort appears. Not because you begged.
