Great post. More people need to understand these tools just predict words. There is nothing “intelligent” about them. So my only issue with this post is continuing to call this stuff AI.

I get amazed by the amount of people that are “wooow karpathy gave the magic formula”, “wow the democratization of the LLM”… we have been working with transformer architectures and other deep learning models for years.. RL too.. papers, code, data have been public for years..

Would it be more accurate to call these things "Computer Generated" rather than AI? I mean it's not artificial intelligence, it does not think, problem solve or create. Maybe we should stop helping the lie to consumers and call them what they are, computer generated.

saying it's the same "algorithm" as the big three is such an oversimplification. It's also still a black box because we don't know exactly what happens inside the model....we know how the model works but we don't know exactly what happens (how the output is spat out).
