@ceceonthescene: Replying to @Jenn the save act is voter suppression. Your constitutional rights shouldn’t be determined by your ability to keep, maintain, and present in-person expensive documents that the government already has. Tens of millions of people will be disenfranchised by this bill. #fyp #politics #liberal #saveact #democrats
Im adopted.. i have tried to get my bc but i no longer talk to my parents. I dont even have a way to contact them. I literally have no clue what to do

my mom literally cannot remember the years she got divorced from either of her husbands (both of which over 30 years ago now) to GET the documents from the two different states she would need to now.

I just paid $205 last night to renew my passport. Also, $100 to fill out the application a few weeks ago.

It took me over a month to get my birth certificate. I paid $60 online then I had to go find someone to notarize the form I needed to request it, pay her $20, find somewhere to fax the form etc….

let them do it, it’ll disenfranchise far more conservatives than liberals

The SAVE act is a solution to a make believe problem. The GOP is notorious for this and it always backfires on them. If they pass this it will be challenged in court immediately because the SAVE act itself is unconstitutional.

Your right to vote can’t be taken away just because you have trouble paying $100+ for documents, you can’t take time off work to wait in government offices, and you can’t travel to present papers in person. The save act is voter suppression.

If they want to make voter ID mandatory, they will make obtaining it free and as accessible as drinking water regardless of where you are in the country. The fact that this isn't the case is the biggest issue here, since the legislation is being made with that flaw in mind to make it so a percentage of the population will be unable to vote.

People that don't see the issue with the save act aren't generally deep thinkers. I would have probably agreed with them when I was in elementary school or Jr high, but then I grew up and started to think more critically.

They're also completely ignoring that nowhere does the law require states to accept said documentation.
Meaning a given demographic like married women could vote in state A but not in state B if state B decides marriage certificates arent valid for registration.

Voting should be so easy voters might accidentally do it while in line for a coffee.

I guess she doesn’t support the troops because they’re not gonna be able to vote if they can’t get stateside to do it in person either 🙄

I also shouldn’t have to carry around my most sensitive documentation to vote. The administration, screaming criminals. I’m not gonna carry around my papers.

Why can’t you just get a passport? Points to the many complaints of passports being made invalid without notice 🙃

While I can definitely appreciate the voter suppression aspect of it, it’s shocking to me that you wouldn’t have to present ID to vote. I’ve never voted without showing ID and the poll worker then crosses you off the registered voter list indicating that you’ve voted, so no one else can claim to be you and vote again.

My state only does mail in ballots, I don't have a passport and my current name differs from my name on the birth certificate. It's a damn poll tax.

Not to mention that the law would go into effect immediately giving states little time to implement it causing chaos. It's also purposely vague about how to rectify name discrepancies.

In Australia, if you haven't already registered to vote, you can rock up at the polls, register and vote same day. They make it as accessible as possible to vote!
