I agree! I said something in jest to my son in law the other day. I truly wasn’t trying to be rude, but reflecting on it I could see how it might be perceived. I apologized to him! I told him that while I was truly joking, the way I said it could easily be taken another way. I assured him that I would never intentionally be rude and would watch how I say things. We have a great relationship but I don’t ever want him to feel disrespected by me because I truly value and love him as my daughters husband and my granddaughters father ❤️

I got let go from my job and my MIL told a table of people “you kids needs to be careful with your money cause look at Emily she got canned” nobody laughed so she said it again and then when I said it offended me I was told “she’s just joking”

My mother-in-law made a “joke” about hanging me. She had already made a few other “jokes” that I did not find funny but this was 100% the nail in the coffin. I am now always completely guarded when around her. Yet she seems to have no clue why.

My Mil would say stuff like those curtains don’t match very good. Well your son picked them out. Oh those look so good. Or your slaw needs more sugar. And I finally spoke up and told my husband it’s me or her. If your not going to stick up for me then you have to pick who you’re allowed to be around.
