Fictional books put you in somebody else’s shoes, it teaches you empathy and looking at someone else’s perspective. Self help books don’t and won’t ever achieve this but this is what society wants rn hence why they’re being rapidly published. They divide society and encourage individualism

As a therapist, I recommend self help books to some and litterary masterpieces to others. Not everyone has the same cognitive ability to understand character arcs and resonate with them as you would and its ok. At the end we are all just people trying to get by any means necessary.

the point of a book is to read. each book is a window to different perspective through direct or indirect narrative like fiction. both are incomparable. because it’s a two completely different thing like a cat and a dog. nothing is better. just a preference

disagree, the self helps I read tells a story first and then lesson later, or a good starter and story to explain/elaborate it. not all self helps jump to teaching

of course, self help books are part of the self help industry designed for the average person who in general, does not know how to think, judge and interpret the world by his own, so he falls for it and buys them. the content of this book is in most cases of bad quality
