Totally agree but unless you have had a cheap run around, you don’t understand how expensive that can be too. 2.5k repairs on my run around last year because it was still cheaper to do that than buy another second hand car

Once you have paid 50% of the total amount payable, you can hand the car back regardless of the equity. It’s called voluntary termination. Xx

me and my husband own a car outright and have a car on finance, the car we own outright costs us so much to maintain compared to the one we have on finance! if you shop around you can get servicing etc as part of your payments in some places, it works out so much better in the long run, you have a newer car that's more reliable! Just don't go getting a car out on finance that is a ridiculous amount a month

With PCP you can hand the car back to the company and walk away, even if it’s negative equity.

I now finance my car & it’s the best decision i’ve ever made. I used to drive older cars & each one required SO much work all the time, they were unreliable & unsafe. My new car has had zero issues and i’ve had it 2 years now. Would rather pay £200 a month and know i can actually get from a to b

I went from a £16k Mini on finance to a £2k 2005 Peugeot 107. I’ve had the 107 for 7 years now. Maximum I’ve spent to fix it in a year is £885. I would NEVER go back to finance. I have such financial freedom.

Getting a bank loan and owing the car is ok in one way but after a few years things go wrong and they are expensive to fix. At least with pcp can give it back when things start to go wrong! Can just get a cheaper car on pcp so you’re not paying £300 a month.

Had same car and van for 12 and 8 years respectively. Both cost about £1000 a year in repairs but its still cheaper than £4-6k a year. Put the rest into s&s isa for ourselves and our son who’s 1 with £4k in already. Car is just a car. I want to retire early not work long just for the sake of a nice car.

I’d love to deinfluence people as I’m on a 4 year PCP but prior to that, the two older cars I had needed so much maintenance and the stress wasn’t worth it! £300 every couple of months on this and that. My current PCP is £200pm and it’s so reliable!! It’s a hard balance as I’d love to go back to a little 2014 hatchback 😭

I ended up ending PCP early & then getting a loan to pay off the remainder. It was built to the exact spec I wanted so all being well it’ll last me 10 years & still look alright

For clarity as people in the comments are discussing VT as if it’s just half way through your term. 50% for VT doesn’t mean you’ve paid 24 out of 48 months. It means you’ve paid 50% of the total debt including deposit and interesting. If deposit was 2k, car 40k and interest added 8k, you’d have to have paid 25k total off, your deposit cleared 2k off, so 23k remaining. Most people hit VT territory over 3 years into a pcp term. (It’s all costed in by finance comp)

Did this for an A class and then a CLA for 8 years. Loved it & don’t regret it. Financially not the best decision and goes again everything I do now (I drove a £1.6k Ford Focus), but looking back now I’m glad I did it!

I have come to this conclusion recently! I drive a 24 plate VW Taigo and I’m waiting until 50% through the payments next Summer to hand it back under Voluntary Termination! Massive massive regret!

done the same. had a nice mazda cx30 on pcp for 11 out of 48 months. just got an aygo on finance instead. not arsed what it looks like. just a car 😁
