@ohkaytacos: Serenity didn’t deserve to die. She was young, she was strong, but she wasn’t wanted… so she ended up in the slaughter pipeline, and it cost her her life. She deserved more. These holding facilities, these auctions, these final places before horses are exported to slaughter are not set up for the horses well being or comfort. They are often injured, abused and neglected before being discarded like trash. Serenity was one of the unlucky ones who experienced all three… The only glimmer of hope? She met Ally… so for a few hours, she wasn’t in pain. She was given medication that took it away. Forage that filled her emaciated belly. And fresh water to soothe her intense thirst. Despite our veterinarians best efforts, Serenity’s condition was too advanced and she was peacefully let go — no pain, no suffering, no final crack of a g*n while she died gasping in the manure. For that she was lucky… but many are not. Consider supporting horse rescues on the front line— assisting horses like Serenity every day. Not every story has a happy ending— some are so tragic… But with more funding, we can continue to divert horses from entering the pipeline through our educational and awareness initiatives. We currently accept 30-60 owner surrenders a month— horses unlike Serenity, who don’t have to enter the pipeline.
