When starting meds I kept asking my therapist/psychiatrist if I really needed it. They told me something that forever changed my mindset.. “if you thought you needed medication for high cholesterol or blood pressure, you’d take it, right? Why is this any different?” Mental health is still health!

I view my SSRIs the same way I view my Crohn’s injections or asthma inhaler—my body needs that, and that’s okay! Nothing wrong with “being medicated,” in fact it’s amazing that we have these medications that help us survive and live fuller, healthier lives

Exactly! Medication gave me a life. Before it, I was simply surviving. I was only alive because my brain and body refused to let me die, based on instinct alone. I felt like an alien in my own body. I looked in the mirror and at photos of myself and saw a stranger. A shell of a person. I did not start truly living until I was 26. I’m about to turn 31 and I’ve lived more in these past 5 years than I did in those 26.
