@bet: When the wins come, so do the critiques. Jonathan Majors speaks on the conversation around Teyana Taylor and the idea that Black actors only get recognized for playing “a certain type” of role. But let’s talk about it — who decides what’s “acceptable” range? Who sets the standard for what depth looks like? And why is our excellence always dissected differently? At the end of the day, the work is the work. The craft is the craft. And when it moves the culture, the awards follow. #NAACPImageAwards
I’m sorry I love TT been a fan for a while but that role in that movie was not award worthy .

I don't understand how people like this movie. Her role was disheartening. The acting was subpar, and the script was lacking yet too much at the same time.

teyana Taylor is not Halle berry or any of those other black female actresses. she represents a new age for black female actresses in my opinion. she's more confident, more informed, shes not a 90's actress. she has nothing to prove she's refreshing in my opinion thats how I feel. 🤷🏽♀️as for those roles in Hollywood we know what they want.

this is how you know Oscar's can be rigged. there was no reason for her to be nominated for that role.

Why are we still seeking recognition from people who don’t truly value us? We had the BET Awards our own platform and didn’t fully support it. Instead of chasing outside validation, we should be investing in and standing behind what we built for ourselves.

We know exactly what he mean the degrading character is recognized by the masses not the inspirational characters..long as they’re recognized right? As long as they have a seat at THAT TABLE they’ve arrived.

I completely understand the frustration, and there are times where I want specifically us as black women to be awarded for playing softer more feminine roles. But at the same time is that golden man the end I’ll be all?

every actor who wins plays a broken, trauma-induced character or extremely silly whimsical part. If u swap out every non black winner with a black one… We’d b saying this for every part. Imagine TEYANA played Emma stone films. Or Michael B Jordan played Dicrapios films. We’d still b complaining. U don’t win for playing normal people who’ve got their stuff together.
