Heavyweight 100% cotton denim will fade regardless. You can wash them. You don’t have to wait a year. Continuous washing wear is your friend. ALSO, not washing your jeans makes them more susceptible to blow outs, rot, and obnoxious smells. Freezing will not kill bacteria. You’re just gonna stink up your freezer and smell like old popsicles in public. If your pants stink or have stains that you don’t intend to keep), wash them. As a former fader, I can attest, you can wash your jeans and STILL get great high contrast fades. Wear them every other day for 3 months, aggressively and then wash your jeans. Thank me later.

Many people forget that the fade is largely down to the dyeing process, as the finest selvedge denims are rope-dyed – meaning that only the outer layer of the yarn is dyed, so that over time the fade reveals patches of white. This is quite different from piece-dyed denim, which is dyed after weaving and develops a much less attractive fade.

a pretty big factor as well is fit, a slimmer cut of denim will produce more prominent fades compared to a more relaxed fit

Hahaha ! I’ve for my n&f Sakura slub 16,5oz for over a year, i’ve only wached it 1 time, and I cant see no fades 😂😂! Beside it my other selvedges are doing really well !
