You’d be a good clinical nurse educator! You are a natural and approachable

If the PBS would give me one for $25 instead of $200+, I'd carry one all the time. But I can't afford to literally throw away $200+ every time it expires (which is usually 10 to 12 months)
Because I haven't had a documented reaction requiring ED care in over a decade, the PBS reject my GP's request for an authority script.

My dad made me administer my EpiPen myself one time, even though he could have for me, he wanted to know I could bring myself to do it if I was ever by myself and had an anaphylactic reaction

Can we talk about the post adrenaline brain fog, it took me two days to feel normal after an anaphylactic reaction. Was walking around forgetting what I was doing.

If you’re an adult and you may need an EpiPen you should always carry it. Not only to look after yourself but to protect the people with you and around you from watching you die.

I’m only anaphylactic to OABS (Penicillin & it’s family) so I don’t carry an EpiPen - BUT I ALWAYS wear gloves when handling ABS (which we should be anyway so we don’t become resistive to ABS) - I even wear gloves to dispense OABS - not just for mixing IVABS. So yeah… I’m a bad nurse for not carrying it. 🙃

my son is anaphylactic to peanuts and all tree nuts. an epipen goes with him everywhere he goes and there’s one at home where everyone knows where it is. we learnt the hard way of finding out he was anaphylactic to peanuts at almost 2 and it was absolutely terrifying. never taking the risk of not giving him the epipen because it’s not on an adult with him. thank you for explaining the importance of this ❤️

I got prescribed antibiotics for something and within 30 mins my body had a full anaphylaxis reaction.
my lips and throat swelled up, I started sweating and I lost control of my bowel.
An Ambulance was called, was give adrenaline and taken to hospital.
After being referred for allergy testing which was positive to that antibiotics family.
I then had medication change (I think that's what it was called) in hospital to try narrow it down.
Anyway, I now have to carry a EpiPen just incase and I'm noted as Cephalosporins type antibiotics anaphylactic.

this is amazing education,my daughter had anaphylaxis yesterday at pres school and her teacher administered her epi pen and then went to hospital i love educating people because so many people are unaware how life threatening anaphylaxis is

Most adults with anaphylaxis were told by their allergists as children when they were diagnosed to take antihistamines first like phenergan when they think a reaction is coming on before resorting to administering their epi pen.. it’s old advice to do this but maybe that’s why people are so hesitant to administer and come into emergency with their epi pen still ?

Hi Ellie, Pheebs here! I completely understand that this isn’t your specialty, but I whistle when I work out (cardio Pilates), I’m also a short girlie and at regular weight - yet I’ve always snored, even as a kid?

We didn’t know hubby had an anaphylactic allergy to aspirin - went to hospital for chest pains, guess the outcome…🤦♀️😂 They said not to worry about EpiPen because it’s unlikely he’ll be exposed by accident.
