Fun fact: a lot of artists use 5 mags or bugpin 7mags to do bold lines as well.

Hiii! As a tattoo artist, before you get into any of this stuff practice your drawing/painting/art. A few of these are a little off, and it’s better to get your art down and learn all of this in an apprenticeship than to have to unlearn/relearn everything.

Cool secret is that when doing portraits with thin hair you can use the edge of your mag to get hair like lines

In my opinion, a 7RS or 9RS isn’t really that bold of a line, especially not trad level bold. The lines in the pic below were done with a 15RS. Also, larger mags are WAY harder to pack with and get consistent saturation. Also, straight, medium taper mags generally pack better. Whereas long taper would be better for black and grey.

I sometimes hang my needle longer for lining so I can get a a clear view of the cavas. The quarter thing is a good starting point though for shading though. The way you hang your needle affects ink flow
