@krystaltoddcpa: I've been a CPA for 10 years, not the one that does taxes. But one that gets to see how the c-suite (CFO, CEO) discuss and mange money. They are ALWAYS looking forward. Stop getting budgets that make you write out every expense. There are plenty of apps that will do that for you. You are the CEO of your life, which means you need to think and plan ahead, not record when you went to the grocery store. In business this is called "cash flow forecasting" but for us we are going to call it "a budget that actually makes sense" You don't need to hope to get out of debt one day, or wonder when you can buy your dream house. You already have all the data to figure it out. You just need a template that does all the boring math for you so that you can focus on making decisions.
