I love that you still have them write their name on the paper even though they are the only student.

Amazing! We have a decodable phonics book that helps kids read short-vowel words, perfect for early readers!

As a kinder teacher you are killing it. Especially teaching him that long vowel sounds are at the end of open syllables and short are in a closed syllable. If you want to build some metacognition in math, look up graham fletchy or Steve Wyborney. They have great free content..it’s not supposed to replace bread and butter math but it builds number sense and problem solving.

I feel like this is a lot for a five year old. Studies have shown that until about 7 they need less book work and more play. My almost five year old picks up on things along the way. He just learned to write his name and I’m teaching him about syllables now. We do read alouds and science lessons too but that’s about it! To each their own, but just try not to stress about him getting everything done so soon. ☺️
