@amberunavailable: What I think a lot of people don’t know is that she was expected to live for months beyond this point. Every stage of dementia she had followed to a T and the next stage we were looking at was the bedridden stage where they are no longer able to eat or even support themselves enough to sit up. So they lay in bed all day staring up at the ceiling and slowly starve to death. She was stubborn and fighting to stay alive for reasons I don’t even think she understood anymore but I could feel her fighting it and I knew she was holding on out of fear. Dementia takes everything from a person and leaves behind only anxiety. She was so so so afraid of everything. So the only thing I knew to do was to tell her about everything that was to come. Even if I wasn’t sure myself, I would say it like I was so that way she had something to look forward to. Whenever you’re excited for the future, fear takes a back seat. So especially in the next conversation I had with her I talked about all the things that were to come. . This is the second of 2 conversations I had with my grandma about death (chronologically this one happened first but the other one was posted first and is next to this one if you haven’t seen it). These are important conversations to have. Don’t shy away from them.
