I had a no food or beverage (other than water) in the bedroom rule. Kids need to come to the kitchen to eat. It started as a cleanliness rule but during the separating tween and teen years the rule limited isolating themselves.

One thing someone told me about toddler-hood is they only adsorb about the last 2 words you say to them. So if you say “hey, Johnny, no hitting please” most of the time all they hear is “hitting please” 😅 it’s better to just say no and disengage

My mom was like this. Her favorite saying was "That was not a question. It was a statement. I didn't ask if you wanted to." 😂 I catch myself saying it to my children as well. We also don't ask questions when we want something from our kids.
