Step-by-Step: Finishing Knot with a Short Thread Tail What you'll need: A hand sewing needle, your fabric, and a short remaining thread. Take your last stitch and pull the thread through, leaving a small loop on the fabric surface before it's fully tightened, do not pull it all the way through yet. Insert the eye of the needle through the loop. This is the key trick: instead of threading the needle's eye with new thread, you use it as a tool to guide the knot.
