@metptamotive: Mind-blowing tech secret: Your powerful GPU might actually be a slightly 'disabled' version of an even *better* one! 🤯 Engineers don't toss a whole chip for one tiny flaw; they smartly isolate the broken section, letting the rest of the silicon shine. This clever process, called binning, is why the top-tier 3090 Ti boasts every single one of its 10,752 CUDA cores working flawlessly on that massive GA102 chip. Think about that next time you're crushing a game—you're running on high-precision, salvaged engineering! #TechSecrets #GPU #Nvidia #Engineering #PCGaming
so my rx 570 is basically a 5090 with a small defect

so theoreticly u could make a 4060 and 4090?

It's binning. It's hardly a secret.

So my 5060 is just a highly defective 5090 😭

Yes, this is called binning and it’s been common practice in semiconductor fabrication for decades now. The main reason is to reduce losses and waste.

How to convert 780ti to 5090?

AvS :
its not that simple. The 3090 also has 24GB of VRAM where 3080's have 10GB or 12GB VRAM. Also 3080's either have a 320bit or 384bit memory bus where all the 3090's has a 384bit memory bus. The PCB of both the 3080 and the 3090 is the same though.

same with i3, i5, i7, i9, they try to make i9s only

eclipsehint :
the video doesn’t mention that this is only true if they share a die. There are different die classes (GB202, GB203, GB205, GB207 iirc for blackwell) which is because usually the higher the number the smaller the die. GB202 is the largest and it’s reserved for 5090s, 5060 for example are made from GB207 (so its not a cut down 5090, it’s a diff die)

so if you have the tools , you can make a 4090 from 4060?

That's the thing with all "tiered" chips like CPUs or GPUs. Too wasteful to toss the defective ones if they still work stable for certain capacity.

It’s also done with cpus like if they need more ultra 7 processors they disable the cores on ultra 9 processors and down the ghz a bit
