@contemporarycool: 20,000 VARIATIONS ON A PAPER PLANE IN FLIGHT at THE WANG CONTEMPORARY The inaugural exhibition “20,000 Variations on a Paper Plane in Flight” is created by Brooklyn-Based creative collective MSCHF. Once per hour, a flock of red and gold paper planes descends from the central oculus of the space, accompanied by an evolving piano score by composer and pianist Yeonjoon Yoon. The Wang Contemporary is a new cultural organization in New York City’s Chinatown, founded by fashion designer Alexander Wang and his mother, Ying Wang. Housed in a beautifully restored historic Beaux-Arts building at 58 Bowery (a former bank, now under Chinese-American ownership for the first time in over a century), it serves as the gateway to Chinatown and a platform to support and showcase Asian and Asian-American creativity across art, design, music, performance, and more. It will focus on exhibitions, performances, and public programs that let creatives experiment and push boundaries, blending historical roots with a forward-looking, global vision.
