How to deal with someone in your team who is persistently late 👇 When someone is consistently late for work it can be really frustrating as a manager especially if it’s having a wider impact. Many managers struggle to know how to approach these conversations and there can therefore be a tendency to avoid them. Can you relate? There are so many reasons why people can be late, sometimes it can even be a sign that they have something going on that you’re not aware of. It’s therefore important to approach a conversation like this in a supportive, curious way. Here are 3 steps you can follow: 1️⃣ Give them the benefit of the doubt and seek to understand the reason first and foremost. This could sound like: “I’ve noticed you’ve been late for work most days over the last few weeks so I wanted to check in and make sure everything is ok?” 2️⃣ Ask them if there is any help or support they need from you. Let them know you’re available to talk if anything is going on. 3️⃣ If they continue to be late. It’s important to remain curious and also clearly communicate your expectations, the impact, and the consequences if there is no change to their behaviour. Let them know you’re available to talk if anything is going on. Then also communicate the importance of them being on time and WHY. 💬 Have you ever been on either side of this situation? If so, what advice would you give? 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and will not fit every situation. Therefore, please use your own judgement when using this advice and adapt it to suit your situation. ➕ Follow Claire Benjamin for more strategies on navigating tricky work dynamics #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #emotionalintelligence #corporatelife #managertips #assertivecommunication #difficultconversations #boundaries
