@letsjuststartpodcast: A lot of very thin bodies online are framed as the result of “clean eating” and discipline. What often gets left out is the energy maths. Maintaining an extremely thin physique usually requires very low calorie intake. And when energy intake is low, everything runs on fumes. Mood, focus, resilience, joy. You can look a certain way and still be underfuelled. If you are young and absorbing this messaging, please remember that your brain, hormones and future need fuel. Life feels very different when you are properly nourished. #womenshealth #bodyimage #letsjuststartpodcast #lauraracky #christiancunningham @Laura Racky @Christian Cunningham

I used to be a size 00 and had the body everyone wanted. But what it took for me to get to that size was a minimum two hours of lifting and working out every day (minimal cardio, and lifting to build lean muscle, not bulk… an extremely intentional, carefully crafted exercise routine that could not be deviated from. Same with food. I was eating 2500 to 3000 cal a day, but it was very basic foods and required a ton of meal prep. No eating out, no junk food, no processed food. It was exhausting and took up every minute of my spare time. I had to back off because of life and other things, and in order to maintain that size, I had to cut way back on food/calories (1500 avg) and had to do Pilates and yoga almost every day. And if I look at those periods of my life where I was able to maintain that size…I felt perfect, but I was tired all the time, constantly had fights in my relationships, underperformed at work…it’s not worth it. I’m in a happy relationship & it took me having several meltdowns with him before I realized they were caused by low blood sugar…to understand how much it affected me & that it would cost me that relationship as well. I’ve let it go. I’ve gone up a size or two, but I don’t crash all the time, we don’t fight anymore, & I’m more consistent/stable. That’s way more important to me than having the perfect body.

I think a lot of people though (myself included) try to live and operate on the cusp of what is healthy/unhealthy. Just enough to feel ok, think straight but nothing to spare. I completely understand how toxic that is, but it is what it is unfortunately 😕 I challenge this mindset constantly, its exhausting

This is why GLP ones work and work so well, when I was on it, I barely ate anything and now I know that is what it would take to remain very thin.

You also have to take into account genetics - not just in terms of looks/body shape, but in terms of metabolism, and what that metabolism does under high stress/anxiety conditions. Of course, no one is going to mention that in the content you're referring to, so everyone thinks the other person is just like that.

Totally agree with what she is saying. I have seen all of this first hand with my daughter who has been battling anorexia for over 8 years. It has affected her in every way including physically and mentally. We can all tell when things are getting bad again because we can see the ED “monster” coming out in her personality and actions

I agree as an impossibly thin 62yr old….. I need to constantly think about my calorie intake….but….no amount of food feels as good as….being slim…..

Women are taught to focus on their dress size not their insides. As in, "how am I feeling, how's my energy?" that's the shift away from self abandonment to actual nourishment in all forms. Working on this myself.
