@traveldaddydave: EMPTY MIDDLE SEAT TRICK The idea is simple. If you HAVE to fly economy, you might as well head as far back in the plane as u can, and select the last row that still is completely empty. Pick the aisle and window, leaving the middle empty, Psychologically, people (if they must) will select a middle seat starting with the front of the plane. So your row, would be among the last selected, if at all. Best case, you have an empty middle seat. Worst case, someone shows up. And you will have NO problem swapping your aisle or window for their middle, and they you can just sit with whoever youre flying with. This has worked on 9 of my last 10 economy flights? Pick the middle seat of an empty row and good chance you will have the whole row to yourself. It’s worked for me on several flights!

Window middle seats always fill up faster than middle row middle seats too. Nothing’s 100% but it’s worked for me lots of times.
