Margret Atwood Said that she didn’t create anything new with this story. She acknowledged that everything that she wrote has already happened to women of color throughout history.

the dystopian genre is generally 9 times out of 10 just 'what if it happened to white ppl'

Yall do realize that the author purposely wanted to hit on white supremacy in the novel right? She intended to scare a white female audience about events that happened in the past and events that COULD happen to them

its why i hate when people say "oh we're living in the handmaids tale now." the things that happen in that book aren't new, white people specifically just weren't the victims of it.

Read the book for a class and I made sure to bring up the racism in a paper, my professor was shocked because she never realized it before and I’m just like ??? What do you mean?

Serena Joy’s character reminds me of the wives of the ensl@ver$ that got jealous of the ensl@v€d women because their husbands f@rc€d themselves on them.

this is why i can’t stand yte women’s fear of this happening irl. it’s already happened to black and indigenous women. the book even makes a point to displace and eradicate our communities, too, so they can have a yte ethnostate. the show tried so hard to paint its reality as “every woman’s” struggle when every woman’s struggle would be and is different.

That author herself said that it was based on the experiences of real women. These are things that are already happening.

She clearly stated that everything in the book happend somewhere at some point in history, some of it being of course America’s past.

someone once said that the primary premises of dystopia was to make white people go through what they did to Black people. I write dystopic fiction and I can't deny that

I haven't seen the series, but Margaret Atwood (the author of the book) said she wrote about things that had already happened or were still happening in different ways, at different times, and in different places, to different women

I have a love hate relationship with this book. It's a perfect example of how white nationalism and facism are entwined, but it's problematic in many ways.

everything in that show has happened at some point in history, usually to black or brown women, but people love to hold it up as an example of ‘how bad things might get’ WE R ALREADY THERE!!
