Mushokou Tensei is complicated, because the main character is despicable when he first reincarnates, but the story is about this exact struggle. It’s up to the reader and watcher to decide whether or not they want to forgive Rudy and if they don’t that’s totally fine, it’s their prerogative. Just like real people are comprised of shades of gray, the show asks you to at least consider everything in between the black and white that makes Rudy who he is. He ends up being a better person compared to who he was, but it doesn’t erase his past because his past led him to where he ends up. The show is objectively good and you don’t have to love the MC to see that. There are plenty of shows where I don’t love or resonate with the MC, but can appreciate where the work of fiction is genuinely peak.
