@anatypicallife: Managing competing needs in a neurodivergent household is 24/7 - but it’s often the things that drain us, that are also the very things that recharge our soul. Some days I feel like my brain never stops switching. I’m translating gestures. Following AAC prompts. Trying to work out what that sound meant. Decoding the social stuff that no one else noticed. Breaking down tasks because the instructions weren’t clear enough. And then two seconds later I’m being chased in a game of tag, naming random animals, talking about flags of the world, jumping on the trampoline, and hearing “mum, look!” on repeat. I actually love those parts. It’s not supporting my kids that drains me. It’s doing all of that while also juggling work, appointments, school communication, NDIS admin… and managing my own neurodivergent brain at the same time. All parents are tired. I know that. But this tired feels different. It’s the constant cognitive switching. The invisible mental load. The translating the world — all day. And yet… the same little voice yelling “look mum!” is also the thing that makes me stop and smile. It’s complicated. But this the world we live in. #neuroaffirmingparenting #raisingneurodivergentkids #actuallyautistic #adhd #pov
