Comfort through Perspective [12:01] I love this verse because it’s so simple yet so profound. At the beginning of Surah Yusuf, Allah سبحانه وتعالى says: تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ “Those are the verses of the clear Book.” Those? Shouldn’t it be “these”? No. That is the literal translation. Tilka means “those,” while hādhihi means “these.” So why does Allah سبحانه وتعالى say “those”? Think about it. If I hold my phone close to you and say, “This is my phone,” where does your head point? Downwards. But if I say, “Look at that,” your eyes naturally move upwards. In Arabic, tilka can refer not only to something far away, but also to something elevated or high. So Allah سبحانه وتعالى says “those verses” — as if raising the head of the Prophet ﷺ and directing him towards something higher. And think about when Surah Yusuf was revealed. The Prophet ﷺ was going through an incredibly difficult period. His wife and uncle had passed away. Makkah had turned against him. So how does Allah سبحانه وتعالى comfort him? But when you look up, you gain perspective. And this is also how we should comfort others. Not by shaming them for being sad. Not by forcing them out of their grief. But gently helping them see beyond what is immediately in front of them. Allah سبحانه وتعالى shows us that subtlety and gentleness. And then look at the story that follows. A boy is thrown into a well — and eventually he is raised onto a throne. His struggle became part of his elevation. So the next time life pushes your head down, don't just read the verses. Look up at them. Those are the signs of your Lord — His majesty and His love — high enough to lift your eyes, yet close enough to comfort you. #SurahYusuf #QuranReflection #Quran #IslamicReminder #Tafsir
