So fun fact. Nikki storyline of being the longest reigning diva was because wwe had feud with cm punk And AJ lee at the time. And they wanted nothing to do with cm punk in particular and her as well. So to pivot the story with aj retirement and resentment toward her they put nikki for the longest reign to erase AJ’s achievement as well. At the time the company was kinda toxic. But to be honest the bellas did put a lot of work backstage so they deserved to be recognized. Also AJ is indeed the one Making that belt relevant ! She argued a lot with writers to have a interesting storyline, its her feud with kaitlyn that started to draw attention on the women divison, then Paige entered and her frennemy dynamic with Aj instantly caught attention, then the iconic pipe bomb shell promo with aj lee actually dissing the cast of total diva (no it wasn’t scripted), making views for total divas to skyrocket, at that point the bellas and Aj’s feud was real, every promo/microphone segments they did was improvised because they used that as fuel for in ring storyline and that also caught a Lot of attention. To add, Aj also was injured at that time, thats also why she had less matches after nikki got the belt, and the iconic championship match that got nikki her 2nd belt where brie kissed aj was so short because the previous matches took so long they had their time cut to only like 2mins. I think brie pitched the kiss at that time which was so funny because it was like a parallel to when Aj kissed daniel bryan in the past for good luck which turned out to be the iconic bad luck kiss that made bryan loose his match very fast 😂 like aj at that moment. Anyway the first Cog that made that belt relevant and interesting to fight for Was indeed Aj Lee.
