@suneetagarwal2: Nike refused to re-sign Roger Federer after 24 years. A Japanese tailor's son paid him $300 million instead. He built the most valuable fashion company on Earth selling $15 sweaters. Tadashi Yanai was 23. Standing in his father's clothing shop. Small industrial city in Japan. Cramped rooms upstairs. Racks of suits below. Everyone expected him to be grateful: "Just run the shop." "Don't rock the boat." "Small-town retailers don't become global brands." He didn't listen. Within two years, almost every employee walked out. All but one. They couldn't stand working with him. Too arrogant. Pushing too hard. Most people would've quit. Yanai didn't. 1984: He opened a new store. Called it Unique Clothing Warehouse. When registering in Hong Kong, staff misread the "C" as "Q." Uniclo became Uniqlo. Yanai liked the mistake. Kept it. 1998: Japan's economy collapsed. People were broke. Yanai saw opportunity. Launched fleece jacket for $15. Patagonia was selling for $100. "You can't sell fleece that cheap." "Japanese want luxury, not discount basics." Two million sold first year. 8.5 million second year. 26 million third year. One in four Japanese people bought Uniqlo fleece. But Yanai wanted global. 2001: Opened 21 stores in London. Disaster. Closed 16 within 18 months. Lost millions. 2005: Tried America. Three stores in New Jersey. Closed all within a year. Sizing was wrong. Japanese sizing doesn't fit American bodies. Yanai called it his biggest failure. "We were nobody." Most CEOs would play it safe. Yanai did the opposite. Called famous designer Kashiwa Sato. Sato told him the truth: "Your brand is the epitome of uncool. You have to redo everything." Yanai gave him the green light. Rebuilt from scratch. New logo. New stores. Instead of small suburban stores, massive flagship stores in prestigious locations. SoHo, New York. Oxford Street, London. Champs-Élysées, Paris. Then Yanai shocked the sports world. 2018: Roger Federer's Nike contract expired. Nike was paying $10 million yearly. When time to re-sign, Nike chose not to match competing offers. Federer's agent called Uniqlo. Yanai asked: "Are you here to use me?" He'd been burned before. Other athletes used Uniqlo offers as leverage for Nike to match. This was real. Nike declined to match. Uniqlo signed Federer. $300 million. Ten years. Three times Nike's offer. Nike's former tennis director called it "an atrocity." But it happened. Federer walked onto Wimbledon Centre Court wearing Uniqlo. No announcement. His outfit was the announcement. Here's what separates Yanai: He doesn't chase trends. Zara puts out 9,000 SKUs yearly. Uniqlo? 6,000. Fewer choices. Better quality. He developed proprietary technologies. HeatTech. AIRism. UV Cut. "Uniqlo is not a fashion company. It's a technology company." The richest man in Japan wears the same two outfits. $15 Uniqlo sweater. Or +J suit. Goes home by 4 PM for golf. Today: 2,519 stores in 25+ countries. $22.3 billion revenue. Most valuable fashion company on Earth. Yanai's worth: $50.3 billion. His autobiography: "One Win and Nine Losses." You only need one win. As long as you survive the nine losses first. What failure are you treating like a verdict? What market are you avoiding because you got rejected? Yanai opened 21 stores in London. Closed 16. Opened 3 in New Jersey. Closed all. Got told his brand was "epitome of uncool." Then rebuilt everything. Signed Federer away from Nike. Built $50 billion fortune selling basics. Failure isn't the opposite of success. Failure is the cost of success. Don't quit.

All very nice chatgpt written. But reality is that in UQ shops you cannot longer find garments 100% natural fiber. No cotton underwear no 100% whool no 100% cashmere. Lots of synthetic use one day and then it stinks like hell. Yes I still pop in the shops and still buy something there but it has become boring

“Failure is the cost of success” is a heck of a one-liner. 🤯 Failure is part of the learning and growth process which ultimately leads to success.

Uniqlo's quality is untouchable when compared to other sports brands. It does not lose shape or color. They have flattering silhouettes and great color ways. And you don't look like a walking billboard when you wear it.

I’ve worn Uniqlo for virtually all my clothing as I have to hit central Tokyo to find as good as quality but the prices are slowly creeping up and the actual designs are basically the gear year in year out…
