I definitely catch myself doing a mix of counts and lyrics with my younger kids - if they forget a section we usually start learning the lyrics so they can sing the song but I do naturally count the routine more than the lyrics

I have beginner mini comp team and every week in tech class we work on tempo and rhythm and counting. Last week we used sticks and hit them on the ground with different beats. Then I started a beat and the had to match their feet to the beat (it didn’t matter what they did to match, but had to match). This week I did the clapping game where you make a beat and they copy. They didn’t realize I was doing the count of a certain part of their dance and when I surprised them with matching a section to the beat we worked on, their eyes lit up and went “ohhhhhh!!!” It was pretty cute seeing that connection

I have started teaching counting with sticks in my kindergarten class and it has been a huge hit and I have noticed a difference…. Tried it with preschool and they just like to slap the sticks 😂
